The Swartland Rotaractors took a donation of food to the Goedgedacht Trust, which works to transform impoverished farming communities in the Western Cape. The Covid Lockdown has made their work all the more urgent.
MILNERTON INTERACT LOCKDOWN PROJECTS
Despite being confined to home for much of Lockdown, the Milnerton High Interactors busied themselves with a food drive and with sewing together knitted squares, some of which were donated by generous knitters, to make winter quilts for the needy. They found that the Covid Lockdown struck many school families badly, and assisted about 60 families with food and data donations. Anybody wishing to donate can contact email@example.com .

Blouberg Rotaract donated a 6 burner stove and food supplies to the Sunshine Educare school , which through donations provides an education, food, clothing and blankets to the children in the very deprived Wolwerivier informal settlement.

We were very privileged to welcome the Charter of the second Rotaract Club as our partners in Rotary, the Rotaract Club of Swartland. The Charter President is Andre Uys. Amongst the guests were Biffy Danckwerts (District Rotaract Chair); President Rex Omameh (Blouberg Rotaract); and President Tommy Freeborough, Secretary Jean Freeborough and Youth Chair Lizelle de Wet (Blouberg Rotary). We would be completely unable to run our Children’s Christmas Party without the hard work done by our Rotaract and Interact partners in Rotary. They collected toys, pre-packed gifts, helped the children onto the horse carts, served at the water table, helped monitor the bouncy castle and the petting zoo, helped with the soccer games and with the sound system, did the face-painting, helped serve refreshments and helped organise the children at the present-giving. BLOUBERG ROTARACT WORLD POLIO DAY EVENT

Rotary International initiated the worldwide campaign IN 1979 to eliminate Polio throughout the world by massive vaccination programs. Together with the World Health Organisation and major donor the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, polio has been eradicated everywhere in the world except Nigeria, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Blouberg Rotaract hosted a magnificent Polio Day Awareness dinner.
UPDATE: In August 2020, Nigeria (hence Africa) was declared Polio free.

We were honoured to join the Interact Club of Curro Century City on their monthly beach cleanup at Milnerton beach, which they have done for some years, clearing away the plastic rubbish which is doing such harm to the environment.

The Interact Club of Table View holds a Fashion Show every year as their main fund-raiser. This year, there was more emphasis on formal wear. It was inspiring to see the hard work which went into the event and the poise of the models. Our own Leanne, with her background in the fashion industry, was one of the judges this year.

ROTARACT FIGHTS POLIO IN NIGERIA
Three members of the Rotaract Club of Blouberg – President Lauren, Rex Omameh and DRR Wesley Guastella – were able to travel to Nigeria, with help from some of our Rotarians, to assist Rotarians and Rotaractors from Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa to vaccinate babies against polio. It was an uplifting and inspiring experience and they were warmly hosted in Nigeria. Here we see President Lauren vaccinating a baby.

Continuing to promote Rotary’s environmental work, we sponsored a tree planting by the Interact Club of Sinenjongo. Each Interactor pledged to care for the tree they planted. The enthusiasm of the Interactors was truly inspirational.

Apart from delivering Easter eggs and handmade cards to elderly people and 1 500 sandwiches for needy people at Silverleaf Primary in Du Noon informal settlement, the Interactors at Curro High will care for the saplings we planted at Curro on the 21st March.

We are very proud to charter the 6th Interact club which we support – the Interact Club of Sinenjongo High School, Joe Slovo Park. Youth director James, President Carl, members and friends Gail, John and Pat (some of whom have a long history of involvement with the school) attended. Blouberg Rotary held an inter-school Interact workshop for ten clubs from the West Coast area: six clubs sponsored by Blouberg Rotary (Bosmansdam, Curro Century City, Milnerton, Table View, Parklands and Sinenjongo), the prospective Blouberg International club, and three clubs sponsored by other Rotary clubs (Buren, Edgemead and Melkbosstrand). We are proud of our initiative to link local Interact clubs to one another.

President Lauren Petersen of the Rotaract Club of Blouberg, together with PP Sharné McDuling, attended the International Rotaract Conference (Interota) in Taipei, which marked the 50th Anniversary of Rotaract. They thoroughly enjoyed meeting Rotaractors from all over the world and being inspired by the global reach of Rotaract and Rotary. CURRO INTERACT MANDELA DAY

Many Interact clubs undertook special community activities to support Mandela Day, which has become a special opportunity for all South Africans to show their care for their fellow human beings. The Interact Club of Curro Century City distinguished itself be forming a marvellous mosaic of Nelson Mandela’s face, created from 20 400 cans donated by Rhodes Food Group, which will be used to aid LEAP (no fees) schools.

We are extremely proud to announce the Charter of the Interact Club of Bosmansdam High School. It has been founded with the assistance of Blouberg Interact Coordinator Fran, Youth Committee members Gail and Tina, teacher Lorinda and Christiaa. We were very excited to charter another Interact Club – the 4th to join our Blouberg family – the Interact Club of Curro Century City. The enthusiasm from the new Interactors & the school staff & principal is infectious. They will be mentored by Judy, the mother of a teacher. Principal Sean explained the school’s commitment to community work. Our Pres. Les & DG Geraldine gave warm speeches explaining what it means to join the Family of Rotary. Blouberg Rotarians were guests at the glittering Charter Dinner of the Rotaract Club of Blouberg. Amongst the guests were District Youth Service Chair DGE Geraldine Nicol, District Rotaract Chairperson PDG Shân Biesman-Simons and District Rotaract Representative (DRR) Daniel Payaneeandee. Blouberg Rotaractors gave the guests a lovely surprise as Brad & Jessica sang ‘Consider Me’ & ‘Waiting on the World to change’ & were then joined by the other Rotaractors singing ‘We are the World’. They then held up letters reading ‘The world needs a change and it starts with us’, which flipped to read ‘Thank you District 9350’. It was a truly unforgettable occasion.
